A mural made with care, for care

Recently, I had the opportunity to create a special mural at a wonderful, small-scale and safe residential care facility for people living with dementia. It’s a beautiful place, with a lovely view and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Downstairs, there is a long hallway with rooms branching off from it.

A central space that residents and caregivers pass through every day.

At the end of this hallway, I was given the opportunity to create a mural. A spot that is seen often, and one that I hope can bring a small moment of light to everyone who walks by, each day.

Flowers formed the starting point of the design. A line art style was chosen subtle, calm, and elegant. It fits beautifully with the environment and creates a timeless look.

In the design, I worked with a selection of colors. The base remains calm, with subtle accents of a single color recurring throughout the piece. Within the circle, I added extra color to give the wall a bit more vibrancy, without making it feel overwhelming..

During the process, I was warmly welcomed by the staff. They were very involved and occasionally took photos of my progress, which made it even more enjoyable. Residents also stopped by for a chat and shared kind compliments moments like that truly stay with you. It was a beautiful reminder of how art can create connection, even through the smallest interactions.

I look back on this project with a very positive feeling. Over the course of two days, I truly enjoyed working on this mural. I hope it contributes to a pleasant atmosphere in the hallway a small moment of light for everyone who passes by.
